This attack requires the attacker to be able to run programs on the same system or platform that is performing AES.
the way they dance around the subject of how "side channels" work while glazing up known evil bad guys like djb and shamir is crazy. it's not about "running programs" on the same system, but those programs being able to trigger cryptographic operations in response to uncontrolled input

I have fully ignored Omarchy because DHH is a monster, but TIL that it continuously runs updates to keep packages current which, uhh, is a choice for Arch. Even more concerning in light of what just happened with the AUR.

It was probably late 1996 when a guy showed me his Red Hat Linux system. I was intrigued and in a few months I saw an ad to buy it for $50 and the fun began. Many years later Ubuntu came out and I felt their concern to make it possible for folks to use it was the turning point for the Desktop. That was when my mom wanted it. She's 96 now and hasn't touched Windows in 17 years or more. She has stuck with Ubuntu.
