While the fast-tracked Datagrid project has been calculated to use 280 megawatts, the company has a secret plan to make it four times bigger and thirstier at 1000MW.

An MBIE briefing from last year reveals Datagrid's goal is ‘‘almost double the consumption of the Tiwai Point smelter’’, currently NZ’s largest single electricity user.

Datagrid want to nab a quarter of NZ's total electricity supply. However an Electricity Authority (EA) spokesperson said the authority had ‘‘not been informed’’ of the data centre’s ‘‘final capacity’’.

Of course they haven't. And because Luxon's coalition is so naive, there are also datacentres being planned for Twizel, Ohau, Geraldine and Cromwell. The plan is to fill NZ with offshore-owned datacentres churning out AI-slop. And they're guaranteed continuous power at a fraction of the cost paid by consumers.

The Greens have exactly the right idea.

@cwebber @andrewrk I've been learning Ukrainian for fun (fairly not useful to me, picked it because I learned some czech as a kid and wanted to learn a language that used cyrillic script; took years of Spanish, Japanese, Latin) and an unexpected side effect was making me happy at how great the internet is! Wiktionary: free high quality etymology info (& a free offline use phone app)?! So many online free / cheap resources from native speakers!

So my sweet baby girl TLC has been under the weather. She's always a bit of a burrower who enjoys a good closet wallow, but we didn't see her for almost two days. When I finally located her in the linen closet, she was curled up with her face to the wall and didn't seem keen on coming out. So I brought her some treats and a glass of water. The next morning, I checked on her, and she turned toward me with interest. So I brought her food and more water, and she actually came out to eat more comfortably in the kitchen. Then she stole my seat on the sofa (see picture).

She's been improving, getting more perky and eating a little more each day. This has been a scary reminder that I have to keep a closer eye on her and her brother now.

Preemptively: No advice needed. I've had cats all my life, many of them super-seniors whom I've cared for well through health struggles. Cathy has a regular vet who will be coming to check on her next week, and the vet will examine Nibbler as well. Thank you for your concern, though, fr. ❤️
