NEW: Line 5 Pipeline Reroute Endangers Maple Trees and Native Lifeways
Ashland, Wisconsin – Northern Wisconsin residents gathered to boil maple sap along the banks of the Bad River, on Canadian oil giant Enbridge’s pipeline easement for its 41-mile Line 5 reroute on March 29, 2026. @evan I don't want it to be Gavin Newsom, but he is *exactly* the sort of candidate that the national committee loves to thumb down on the scales to shove down our throats. It would take a Herculean effort by the left to get anyone more palatable on the ballot, and then the (D) would try to "balance" the ticket by blackmailing the candidate into naming a veep somewhere to the right of Fetterman.
A few nights ago, around 4:30, I heard an owl calling several time out the open window, probably from within 100m. I know we've had (introduced ex Germany) Little Owls in the valley, but after listening to some calls on iNaturalist, I'm fairly certain
it was the other option, our native Aotearoa Ruru (Morepork)... very cool to have them in the 'hood!
"Recently, FamilySearch digitized and uploaded tons of microfilmed records, including many from 18th-century Massachsuetts. They're using some sort of AI to transcribe/summarize the handwritten documents.
I've noticed that the AI strips out references to race and enslavement in 18thc documents."

Do you pre-emptively block reply guys when you see them doing it to a third party, even if they’ve never done it to you?
I am not too bothered by the average reply person but I absolutely block people based on their interactions with other people
I have no idea what monitor ever supported both DDC and software-triggered degaussing. I'm guessing the answer is "not any monitor you could ever afford"
@foone at a guess it would have been a top-end late Sony Trinitron
TV: "Trump and Xi have entered the Great Hall of the People."
Me, a person completely destroyed by online brainrot, in my best Yoda accent to precisely nobody in the room: "Halls not make one great..."
fun fact: did you know you can call an API to degauss a monitor?

anyway the reason I was hacking this is that I want to know how it communicates with my monitor, so I can do it myself instead of using their weird abomination of an app.
Answer seems to be SetVCPFeature & GetVCPFeatureAndVCPFeatureReply from the DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) API

Wow, it's a stunning day in Ōtautahi. The flies are certainly having a field day.. perhaps a final offensive for the season?
they wrote the app in C++
in MFC
so they're using some embedded COM HTML view
this isn't Electron, it's a DIY Electron clone
