@fuzzyleapfrog Japp, Heidrun argumentiert top!
Going batshit insane looking at TierList subreddit, were they labeled Los Angeles an A-tier city. B-tier at best, no matter the fame.

Non mancate!
On my to LA and PyCon US 2026! Start your FOMO now. (Or if you're in the LA area, buy a ticket! It's the best conference!)
There's going to be 2,000 Pythonistas there. I'm masking up for the flight and the conference. We keep us safe. If you're feeling unwell, test yourself. https://us.pycon.org/
Not to put too fine a point on it.
About 16Gb space and about 1.5k of packages. That said, if it really matters because you are: "Installing on a device with limited disk space, where it is hard to add additional storage", "a setup where there is an ongoing cost to rent disk space (e.g. a Virtual Private Server)" or you just like the learning exercise of cutting back an install, you can make it *a lot* smaller fairly easily:

There is a full dev environment by default. Compiling with Slackbuid is easy.
SlackBuilds is like the AUR but all packages uploaded and all updates to them are reviewed by a team. Thus while I can push an update to the build script for Vivaldi to the pending queue, it might take a couple of days before it is reviewed by humans.
In addition there are tools to automate the various SlackBuilds build and install steps and to handle Slackbuild dependencies.

Web history disappears when it can’t be preserved.
Today, many publishers are blocking the Wayback Machine from archiving parts of the public web, putting decades of digital history at risk.

@internetarchive It will be stolen while live instead, hoarded by AI companies and sold back to us.
The free world did not beat Adolf Hitler to let amateur Hitler take over America.

I wonder how long we'll have to wait before we get an AI-enabled Google Toilet™️?

Hello, I'm from the campaign to launch the word "learnings" directly into the sun. Do you have time for a quick chat about what we're trying to achieve?
@christianp lets take it offline and circle back later, I think

Simulated opinion polls to drive public policy — what could possibly go wrong!
In the name of saving costs and producing more polls (i.e. the double benefit of increased efficiency AND productivity), statistical truth (traditional polls) is being replaced with its derivative, producing statistical insights via a second layer of statistics and agents simulating known, pretrained demographic behaviors & preferences, instead of interviewing actual people. Yay!
It seems they're blindly following Wheeler’s Law, i.e. "All problems in computer science can be solved by another level of indirection" and ignoring the corollary: "...except for the problem of too many layers of indirection."
Queue future presidential approval ratings based on a simulated population of agents... Too dystopian?!
@toxi Yikes.
All models are bad but ones modelling models modelling model citizens are worse
