@randahl Mmmmm, I think you're knitting together events that don't belong together.
They all involve masked thugs.

Stasera sarò a Bologna, alle 19:00, allo Scipione dal Ferro a presentare Assalto alle Piattaforme.
Parleremo, ovviamente, di Fediverso!
Good discussion on American Imperialism and intervention and how it actually worsens repressive elements in those countries.
Hasan Piker At University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
Much in this world depends on setting a good example.
In related news, here is Trump’s Secretary of Health telling podcast listeners how he is used to snorting cocaine off toilet seats, so germs are nothing to be scared of.
Tell me… are we still living in reality… or is everything just satire now?
Snorting on toilet seats, that may explain how he ended up with a parasite that ate part of his brain.

I'm sprouting bean sprouts from lentils to increase the number of fresh tasting things in my house in between grocery runs
@cwebber Are you just using lentils off the shelf? Curious to know your germination rate!
@JosteinSN Why do I feel like you're about to tell me about the vegetables you grow at home.
When talking about the energy consumed by LLMs don't be fooled by arguments focusing solely on the direct power consumption of these models, because they are externalizing a lot of it. Browsers are now doing proof-of-work calculations to access many websites, because websites need to protect themselves from AI scrapers. That takes power! Let that sink in: every computer, tablet or phone on earth is now consuming more power *every time it accesses a webpage* because of "AI".
@gabrielesvelto don't forget the bandwidth. That all uses energy as well
In a drastic reversal, Trump has gone from embracing “the opportunity to build even more bridges” with Canada in 2017 to threatening to stop the opening of the Gordie Howe bridge until Canada “treats the U.S. with … Fairness and Respect.”

I posted this earlier today, but realized it was not a reasonable time for US folks. So here goes: The big #plushtodon is now on sale, 20% off. Only available in the US, shipping locally. There are 87 left and we will likely never make one of this size again. I have some cool new things planned and clearing them out would be a big help. Thanks!
@Gargron Snagged one. Thank you!

@evan I am a 68°F, 20°C setter. My wife prefers 70°F, 21°C as a baseline. It also doesn't help that our thermostat is in a warmer room, so 68°F at the thermostat can be 65°F in the family room.
@dajb For the last six months I've been reflecting on how any organisation with contractual commitments to third parties related to confidentiality can continue to use third party software and systems that cannot or will not provide guarantees regarding where underlying data is stored or who can have access to it. This includes, of course, many of the most ubiquitous software providers...
@Nigel_Lake Exactly that.
@alebaffa2 @tante Sorry, your scare tactics simply don't work on us. "You're at risk if you don't start now" is pure hype.
@jaredwhite @tante i hope it will be so too.

UK ban on Palestine Action unlawful, high court judges rule.
This is wonderful news but doesn't stop the fact that over 2000 people were arrested for breaking this unlawful law and nor does it make up for the 18 months multiple activists spent in jail before being found not guilty.

Do you know about the AI company who sold large-scale human behavior simulations and predictions to the military and government?
IN THE 1960s
This is how old this grift is.
That company went under after about a decade in a maelstrom of bad publicity and dubious finances.
