Perhaps I'm being overly picky about terminology, but I would have said;
... what "free market" economic policy is supposed to deliver us; competitive markets.
Buzzphrases like "the free market" - or more often just 'the market' - are invented labels for a propaganda concept.
There's no monolith we can call "'the market' where all commerce happens, outside of planned economies. In an economically democratic society there are as many markets as there are goods and services to be bought.
(2/?)
The corporatist policy that spins itself as being about a "free market", is and has always been about protecting friends of the regime from the competition that comes with actual free markets. It's about protecting the power to extract economic rents. The very thing that a free market is meant to free of (according to Adam Smith and his anti-feudalist contemporaries).

@lkundrak terribly sad story he shit himself to death
Unfortunately AI has come to be a catch all term for a wide array of advanced computer processing techniques. Talking about no generative LLM code in a FOSS project, or attesting that an piece of artwork was created by a human, is not the same thing as using machine learning to analyze radiology images. They are all lumped under AI though.
@mastodonmigration all those techniques are means of having computers do things only humans used to be able to do. They're definitely a form of intelligence, intelligence ultimately capable of contributing to the demise of humans if we're not careful. While I welcome medical uses of AI, I have grave concerns about humanity's ability to handle AI and all other forms of technology responsibly. Bigotry & hatred make humans a great danger to ourselves. We can go extinct from our own advances.

@stefan_hessbrueggen @joshisanonymous @Iris Oh yes, totally! There are applications where ML or even LLMs might provide a specific use case. In a constrained context, it may make sense to provide a machine translation or transcription, as long as we understand the boundaries of what it can or can't accomplish, and why...
But right now, the instrument to make LLMs possible are through an industry that is ecologically harmful, exploitative, and devoid of accountability. For example, creating an interface to LLMs that mimics human behavior (i.e., a chatbot) is irresponsible, at best...
