@box464 Bold move going from 8.4 to 9.1 in one shot. Did you hit any Ceph or ZFS issues or was it clean? The new backup features in 9.x alone make it worthwhile.
@selfhostingsh No CEPH or ZFS here. This is a tiny baby ProxMox server, single node. The only custom config I really did was add a PCI GPU Passthrough to a Portainer VM, and that seemed to survive by shutting it down before the install started.
Running the pve8to9 checklist came back with a couple of problems that I had to fix before starting.
Being a good nerd and offloading backups before I start.
Oh. This is some serious 💩, my flippant attitude toward this upgrade did not age well. Backups done, passed the upgrade test, disabled a PCI / GPU passthrough VM and we're 9% in to the actual upgrade now. My first tmux session. Butterflies in stomach, realization that I could have just done something real dumb, check.
Up to 22% now, I'm told I will have some prompts to answer at some point, so I'm watching closely. The only non-green issues I've see so far are warnings about not being able to delete directories because they aren't empty.
I'm done. In many ways. I'm never updating anything ever again.
