Street Style
As one of the most popular genres, street photography comes in many different styles or sub-genres, so I thought it would be interesting to look at my own preferred techniques for capturing life on the streets.
Today's technique is what I will call Street: Fishing, where the photographer finds an interesting scene and waits patiently for just the right person to enter it.

A man walking a small dog strides past a mural of a man walking a small dog. Patience finally paid off, after countless dog-less people walked past this well-known Glasgow mural.
Another Glasgow mural in which a woman appears to be kissing the forehead of a man walking past on the street. Again, positioning and timing were critical for this idea to work. The woman in the picture is actually blowing dandelion seeds, which can just be seen in the top right.
A huge wall-end mural in Glasgow shows a painting of a young woman bending down and examining something with a magnifying glass, she has her left hand outstretched as if to pick it up, and a man is in exactly the right place on the street to appear as if he is the subject. Timing was critical for this shot to work, especially as it was shot on black and white film.
A bar in Valencia, Spain, called La Negrita Bar which has a large mural of a beautiful, dark-skinned woman wearing a headscarf and elaborate earrings on its doors, and walking past it is a dark-skinned woman wearing a headscarf and earrings. I waited half an hour for this scene to unfold.
