The burritos got their hooves trimmed and didn’t try to kick the farrier once. She’s so gentle and calm with them. But they still want me to know it must NEVER happen again. #asstodon

@impermanen_ I once had 2 BLM burros. Farrier day was bad. I think we only did it once.
@fondoffawns it’s so hard for the ones that are completely wild or traumatized because they really do need our help to thrive in the unnatural environment of captivity: haltering, shots, deworming, hoof care…. Our farrier actually adopts donkeys that won’t allow anyone to touch them, then gradually, over months, gets them to accept human touch. Then she re-homes them. It takes sooooo much patience. We love her so much.
@impermanen_ She sounds like a saint. I was managing a ranch for a very wealthy guy who didn’t care much about what I adopted, as long as they made a good story. These gals turned out to be pretty sweet. There must have been an intermediary btw us and the wild.
@fondoffawns I love the donkeys but that level of commitment is beyond me. I admire the people who do it and totally relate to the ones that give up.
The farrier complemented them. Evidently some of her donkey pedicure customers get pretty violent about having their nails done. 💅
