Moving on with our next speaker Julian Lam @julian who shows how forums help overcome infinite scrolling news feeds.
He's the co-founder of @nodebb, an open-source community forum platform with built-in #ActivityPub support, connecting traditional forums to the #SocialWeb.

So, one thing I said at #FediMTL yesterday is that Fediverse software should ship with the IFTAS DNI list as the default, minimum blocklist. Ideally, the list should periodically auto-update.
If you *want* to see gore, racist harassment, or transphobia, you can consciously remove those sites from your blocklist. If you want to subscribe to a different blocklist, you should get to do that, too.
Fediverse admins shouldn't have to learn how to find the DNI list and install it the hard way.
"People are co-participants in the distribution of messaging. Which is something the Fediverse has."
"If data isthe new oil, then data centers are the new pipelines."
"Where are the centralization points of our technology?"
"Data centers are a centralization of power."
Incredible pull quotes from @cwebber.
Promoting NodeBB/fedi to city-scale organizations
@johannab@cosocial.ca asks:
NodeBB strikes me as the best aligned of the extant platforms for municipal governments. Here's a question for julian: is he prepared for, or interested in, a promotion program to city-scale organizations?
To which I answered, simply: "Yes."
Now that I have the time to expand on my answer:
Yes, absolutely! There is definitely a space for municipal city-scale adoption of the fediverse through properties that they alone control, but federate widely. [...]

[...]Nice day today at #FediMTL. Good talks and good people. Met some folks I only knew from the Internet. Hope I can go again next year.
#FediMTL I has to dip early and have been busy straight since then. But here's my closing thoughts.
First the positives:
I met some people I have been meaning to meet, and a few people came up to me because they were aware of projects I work on and wanted to express their gratitude. So that's obviously validating.
I flyered for Fediverse Night at @foulab (tomorrow night and every last Wednesday of the month!) and a few people had hears of it or were into the initiative.
FediMTL yesterday was excellent!
Thanks again to everyone involved 🫶
Please enjoy this painting of my presentation by my fianceé who tuned into the live stream from the UK 👀 🥰
