This past Tuesday, antifascist activist Maja T. was sentenced by a court in Budapest to eight years in prison. The trial appears to have been largely bereft of substantive evidence, but that's Hungarian law in the present moment.

Here is my translation of Maja's statement to the court before the verdict was handed down. There's some pretty weighty stuff in here, but ultimately it is a heartfelt expression of the importance of solidarity from the outside for people serving long prison sentences for bullshit reasons.

Versuch der GLS-Bank die Kontokündigungen der Roten Hilfe zu rechtfertigen

Die Bank behauptet in einem längeren Statement sinngemäß, der Aufwand für die Überwachung der Konten sei zu aufwändig geworden, das Risiko für "erhebliche Bußgelder und weitere Sanktionen" der Bank zu groß.

Dann wirds krass:

Banken "sind dazu verpflichtet, Kontobewegungen zu prüfen, um Geldwäsche und Terrorismusfinanzierung zu verhindern. Das gehört zum Tagesgeschäft". Inhaltlich trifft das zu, aber sie rücken damit die Rote Hilfe, abc Dresden und die DKP in den Bereich Terrorismus und Geldwäsche. Und das ist eine durch und durch politische Entscheidubg der Bank!

It is so impressive to see how you are fighting back in Portland. Solidarity greetings from southern Germany. I was in prison for a while and received friendly and supportive letters from Portland for years.

I am now free and work for a small non-commercial radio station. Next week I am travelling to Dresden (in eastern Germany), where the trial against 'Antifa-Ost' is beginning. Just a few days ago, the Trump administration put them on the anti-terrorism list.

Nächsten Dienstag startet der 2. #AntifaOst Prozess in #Dresden. Es wird ein langer und politischer #Prozess sein.

Nach wie vor entspricht das Vorgehen staatlicher Behörden gegen Antifas nicht im mindesten dem, was ihnen vorgeworfen wird. 70 Prozesstage am OLG sind absurd und schon an sich eine Bestrafung für die Angeklagten.

So ist es auch mit der Untersuchungshaft, die sich teilweise über Jahre ziehen wird.

Die Mordanklage setzt dem Ganzen die Krone auf. Im 1. Prozess hörten wir einen ach so glaubwürdigen Kronzeugen, der klar äußerte, dass ein tödlicher Angriff nie gewünscht, geschweige denn geplant war. Doch während alle seine Aussagen absolute Gültigkeit haben sollten, egal wie schwammig sie waren, in diesem Punkt weicht die GBA von seiner Haltung ab.
