Unfortunately the two that I'm interested in for new functionality - the BILRESA scroll wheel and the ALPSTUGA CO2 sensor - were not in my local Berlin IKEA. Honestly I was amazed that they had *any* of the new Matter devices, as they only just got the 2nd gen Zigbee devices in a few months ago (typisch Berlin).
Will report back as and when.
They're much better looking devices than the Zigbee devices they're replacing - they no longer look "nerdy" for lack of a better description. They're all round corners and more thoughtful design. They all use AAA rechargeable batteries, which immediately makes them better than anything cursed with coin cells.
The weight of the 2-3 batteries only increases the feeling of quality, as do the much more subtle magnet attachments.
Got to play with the new IKEA Matter devices. All very easy to get set up in Home Assistant. The only glitch is the BILRESA dual button. The three modes per button are exposed as events, but HA doesn't yet support triggers via entities. But that's coming at some point soon as the old system gets replaced.
My experience with @homeassistant has been a disaster.
I welcome any guidance or tips for achieving smart light bliss in a mixed Android and iPhone home, including alternatives to Home Assistant if they might serve my use case better.
