Back on solstice in 2020, snowshoeing with the family, we ran across this crazy scene in the deep snow. My guess is seeds shaken off by wind and little animals scurrying about to stock up. Mice? Voles driving matchbox cars?

Closeup of the snow from above, it is dotted with little brown seeds or husks. There’s a maze of tracks squiggling all about, like if you were a hungry excited mouse in the middle of winter and just found the motherlode of snacks.

Zoomed back a ways to start giving you an idea of the scale of their squiggling. Whatever it is has put in some miles!

Still doesn’t encompass all of it, but now we are looking at an angle and can see small trees and brush nearby to help provide scale. It must have been a full on party, whoever they were.

I love tracking in the sand dunes. Tracks of insects, birds, mammals, etc provide witness to the animal's lives.

Here, a bunny stopped to pee.
