2024 NYT article:

Interviews with his associates, along with a review of court documents & other public records, reveal an ideologically driven conservative with a combative streak….

Over time, #TimothyMellon’s politics shifted far to the right.

…By 2014, he was posting comments in an online chat room comparing #ClimateChange scientists to ISIS & worrying that terrorists could attack America using “donkeys coming over our Southern border.”

… #TimothyMellon rarely engages with the news media & did not respond to interview requests. Even some of the candidates who accept his checks have little contact with him. The most detailed accounting of his life comes largely from two sources: an autobiography Mellon first published in 2014 & the paper trail he has left in court.

#TimothyMellon, who lives primarily in Wyoming, keeps a low profile despite his prolific political spending. He is also a significant supporter of #Health Secy #RFKJr, who also ran for president last year. Mellon donated millions to Kennedy’s presidential campaign & has also given money to his #AntiVax group, Children’s *Health* Defense.

The #Pentagon said it accepted the donation under the “general gift acceptance authority.”

“The donation was made on the condition that it be used to offset the cost of service members’ salaries & benefits,” Sean Parnell, the Pentagon’s chief propagandist, said in a stmnt.

Still, the donation appears to be a potential violation of the #AntideficiencyAct, which prohibits federal agencies from spending money in excess of congressional appropriations or from accepting voluntary services.
