Reflecting

Following the coastline along Ísafjarðardjúp, we stopped for coffee and to look for seals on the skerries.

We waited for the rain to stop before we left the car, and we were greeted by this gorgeous rainbow over the fjord.

We could see it's reflection in the still water, and a sharp eye can catch a ghostly double, just visible on the right.

Litlibær, between Hestfjörður and Skötufjörður in the Westfjords of #Iceland.

The Closed Eye

Jökulsárgljúfur¹ - 25km long, up to 500m wide, in places 100-120m deep, this impressive canyon forms the northernmost part of Vatnajökull National Park.

The swift waters carry sediment from the glaciers, and one eddy had grown a small black beach. Cut by the ebb and flow of the river, a lovely but fleeting structure had formed.

A closed eye, complete with eyelashes.

Morning Light

Early October, and the sun is rising later each day.

The watery sunlight from the south-east touches the flank of the mountain softly, and the sheep are white dots around the still-verdant fields. Winter will arrive soon enough.

Terraces

The stepped side of the mountain is clothed in autumnal colours. Carpets of mosses and grasses are interwoven with gravelly channels.

All around us is the sound of running water.
