Held In Suspense

The bridge across Eyjasund touches the island of Hrútey on one side and the wonderfully named Langitangi on the other.

We stopped on the steep flank of Starvatnsháls to admire its curve in the late September sunshine.

Mjóifjörður in the Westfjords of #Iceland.

A colour photo of a landscape containing a body of water under a cloudy sky. The fjord and the browning vegetation on one bank is bathed in clear sunlight. Near the centre of the fjord is an island and a curved suspension bridge is connecting it with the road. The foreground is a steep curve of road with barriers along one side. In the distance is the shadowed flank of a mountain.

Thunderous

The gorgeous bridal veil of Dynjandi.

100m/328ft high, 30m/98ft wide at the crest and 60m/197ft at the base. Accompanied by six other lovely cascades below, this truly is the Jewel of the Westfjords.

The climb to the top is 200m/656ft and I didn't make it all the way. I'd been determined that I would but I disappointed myself. I saw a lot of beauty that day, though, so I was content.

A colour photo of a large, fan-shaped waterfall dropping down a sheer mountain face of grey rock. Several other drops can be seen below it. The more horizontal surfaces up the cliffside have yellowing vegetation on them along with some golden plants and moss. The sky is overcast and grey.
