Currently listening to a talk by large consultancy Centric about their #opensource sovereign workspace - basically the commercial version of #MijnBureau, #LaSuite and #OpenDesk.

Strongly mixed feelings. Like yeah consultancies have a role, but (having worked for Big Consulting for years) I know that their motives are purely monetary.

It's so cool to see European ministers advocate for #digitalsovereignty 🔥

Currently on stage are Germany's and France's Ministers for Digital Affairs, talking about the necessity of funding EU alternatives. Later today our Dutch gov's CIO will talk about the EDIC, a consortium in which we build sovereign digital commons together (like #MijnBureau). The day ends with keynotes from French pres Macron and German Chancellor Merz.

You may think a digital world where we’re no longer dependent on Big Tech is unrealistic… but you don’t have to reinforce the convenient narrative that there are no alternatives. You don’t have to be bold, but don’t discourage the leaders, pioneers, and decision-makers who do want to value things like autonomy and ownership of their data with unnecessary fear or a sense of smallness.
