That area is actually called "Widow's Tears" but I didn't want to get close enough to find out why. (Truthfully I was too exhausted to make tracks to it, so admired it from afar.)

“Cathedral Range” — Cathedral Range rises above Yosemite high country.

This was the scene late in the day during my early July visit to the High Sierra near Tuolumne Meadows and just east of Yosemite National Park. In the right light, this can be my favorite time of day — the sun Is nearing the horizon and the light is softening and turning golden, and shadows stretch across the landscape. I adore this little slice of the earth. #yosemite #nature

Photo 1: for the first time I was able to scramble up very close to the base of Yosemite Falls.

Royal Arch Lake from Buena Vista Peak. A couple rocks are seen of the foreground, but generally small trees spread out from the viewer. They break in the middle for a blue lake with green at its edges and a gently sloping granite mound to it's left. Within the granite, the inner portion of an arch of rock has fallen away. Another mountain dominates the distance, this mostly green with a middle cliff face of rock.

Stark granite rocks dotted with pine trees and Sierra juniper. A ledge of granite on the right supports a trail with rocks along the sides. It makes a smooth drop to another, larger flat of granite. Somewhere past a line of trees, granite rises again on the other side of this glacier carved valley. It all extends into the distance where even more granite shows the sides of another valley and rises to peaks, all stark white with black water stains and dotted with green.
