I think I have become a bird watcher.

I’ve been recording what I find when I’m at the commune (I joined one on the south coast about a year ago, but have been coming here for years with friends). Today I saw a bird that could have been either a Pied Cormorant, or a Little Pied Cormorant, but I didn’t get close enough to see the colour of its legs. So I cannot record anything and shall have to go look for it again tomorrow.

What have I done? Do not install bird spotting apps if you have a tendency to competitive gaming.

@emmadavidson Congratulations on finding a source of endless delight. I can share that my two unexpected favourites for songs are the grey shrikethrush and singing honeyeater. I have also personally struggled with the pied/little pied cormorant dilemma and so I can understand the stress. Welcome to an amazing part of reality! #birds #australianbirds #nature

New Holland honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae) on a flowering echeveria in my neighbour’s garden.

New Holland honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae) on a flowering echeveria. A small black, white and yellow-streaked bird with a longish curved beak to reach nectar. This one is hanging into a bright pink succulent flower.

dunno why mum keeps sending me pictures of her fence

Two tawny frogmouths sitting on a fence, imitating tree branches. They are the same grey mottled colour as the fence and if it was a tree and not flat rectangular pieces of wood they'd blend in really well.

There are some fun taglines for the various birds in the list. I quite enjoyed this one for the Pied currawong: “Can't go wrong with a currawong”.
