In #Utah, #Trump’s Vision for #Homelessness Begins to Take Shape

The proposed site where Utah plans to place as many as 1,300 homeless people outside of Salt Lake City.

State officials promise large-scale #involuntary #addiction & #MentalHealth treatment at Salt Lake City’s edge. Critics see “a prison, or a warehouse.”

In Utah, Trump’s Vision for Homelessness Begins to Take Shape

To glimpse the future #homelessness #policy in the age of #Trump, consider 16 acres of scrubby pasture on the outskirts of #SaltLakeCity where #Utah plans to place as many as 1,300 #homeless people in what supporters call a services campus & critics a #DetentionCamp.

State planners say the site, announced last month after a secretive search, will treat addiction & mental illness & provide a humane alternative to the streets, where afflictions often go untreated & people die at alarming rates.

Fedi folks/fam/friends (what do you personally prefer?) I'm setting off on a weird adventure in October.

I'll be driving from Illinois to Glenwood Springs, Colorado with a friend, spending a week in the mountains (working remote and helping with condo renovations), then taking the train to Salt Lake City, Utah (spending a couple days), flying to Kalispell, Montana (poking around Glacier National Park area for a week), and finally taking the train back to Chicago, Illinois.

I would love thoughts/suggestions (especially in #SaltLakeCity); meetups for coffee, photo walk, or food/drinks; and anything else you want to chat about!

Special request for #BelieveInFilm, I can't decide what kind and quantity of film I should bring with me. I think I've at least landed on bringing along two range finders, a 35mm (with 50 f/2 and 35 f/3.5) and a 120 (folder) . I hope to shoot at least one roll of 120 slide film in Glacier and plan to mount it in a light box. But would love to hear ideas/approaches!
