@hovav Those deploying #LLMs are frequently doing stupid, and this is a perfect illustration of that.
It's the most obviously daft thing I've seen yet. Not just bad but ridiculous...
To replace a hand crafted abstract with by a human to convey the essential information about a paper they wrote with an AI generated summary. 🤦♂️
And this is from the Association for Computing Machinery!
The @ACM are officially run by clowns.
I didn't think the #ACM could make me dislike the ACM DL more, so, congratulations I guess, on figuring out a way to do that and ALSO make it more expensive to run at the same time, with AI summaries for things that already have abstracts
Oh actually it's even worse #ACM what is wrong with you?

ACM is now showing an AI “summary” of a recent paper of mine on the DL instead of the abstract. As an author, I have not granted ACM the right to process my papers in this way, and will not. They should either roll back this (mis)feature or remove my papers from the DL.

#ACM adding AI slop summaries, and even podcasts to my papers? It's a huge waste of resources; It's a denial of scientific rigor. It's an insult. 😞
ACM needs a volunteer-led, diamond open access digital library (DL), where the author does not pay and the reader does not pay. The ACM DL just got one job: Enable me to read my colleagues freaking papers! 😠
#ACMOpen is a disaster. 😢

TIL about the discussions that occurred around the distinguishment of "capital oh" and "zero" for purposes
of readability and disambiguation back in the early 60s(!)
(Hilarious* to think that we're still sometimes having the same discussions 60 years later.)

@ElenLeFoll To all #hci people out there - should we not try to create something similar to - maybe slowly but hopefully steadily - get away from #acm and their capitalist version of open access that excludes institutions who are not willing or able to pay their excessive publication fees?
