Reform want the UK to exit the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) . It guarantees the following fundamental rights and freedoms:
- Right to life
- Prohibition of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment
- Prohibition of slavery and forced labour
- Right to liberty and security
- Right to a fair trial
- No punishment without law
- Right to respect for private and family life
- Freedom of thought, conscience and religion
- Freedom of expression
- Freedom of assembly and association
- Right to marry and found a family
- Right to an effective remedy before a national authority
- Prohibition of discrimination in the enjoyment of Convention rights
You don't get to pick and choose rights. Assume they want to get rid of them all. #ukPol #reform #echr

I notice a number of comparisons being made between the Palestine Action hunger strikers & Bobby Sands. What is overlooked in these, is that Bobby Sands was a convicted prisoner whereas the current hunger strikers have not been convicted of any crime but have been imprisoned since November 2024 for an *allegation* of criminal damage.
Why have they not been released on bail, and if there is some need to detain them why have they not had early trial dates set?

There has been a lot in the news about Starmer trying to curb the effect of the ECHR on asylum claims. But despite searching (and reading many sources), I can't find anything on the number of asylum claims this would impact.
Does anyone have any data on this? I can't help thinking it might be a sledgehammer to crack a nut. And it might limit all our rights!
