If you are a Thames Water customer, already pretty annoyed with you water services provider, the news that during its bid KKR (the private equity giant) received 拢20mn to cover the costs of its due diligence into the firm, before then stepping back due to the risk of nationalisation, will not come as good news.

The nationalisation (temporary or otherwise) of Thames Water makes ever more sense.
Now the controlling creditors are demanding relief from sewage & pollution regulations for up to 15 years to help them 'rescue' TW... given part of the problem with TW's it is past lack of care for & pollution of water courses, this surely must be the final nail in the coffin of continued private ownership & the draining of funds from TW's customer base.

Govt could use a process known as special administration to take over failing Thames Water. The figure of 拢99bn is based on an estimate from a thinktank paid for by water companies.
The analysis from another think tank 'Common Wealth' shows that it matters who is framing & costing problems & their solutions.
