If Affinity really cares about the creatives, they (& all other design companies, hopefully Adobe too?) should have form a group to create a file format standard. As long as the design format is proprietary, there's not much "freedom" here, even if the software is free, paid-once or subscription-based.
Sketch is actually almost there, at least for UI/vector designs (https://developer.sketch.com/file-format/), but designers end up moving to other tools like Figma, etc.

There was no way #Canva could resist destroying #Affinity. The scorpion always stings the turtle, and so yet another great piece of software has succumbed to corporate enshitification.
Don't give a dime to #Adobe, or this bullshit 'AI' that none of us wants or needs. Instead give your money to your favorite free (as in liberty) and open source graphics projects. Those projects are the only way we'll ever be free of these idiots!
As we feared, all previous versions of #Affinity have been deprecated and replaced with a new freemium version— and a funnel to Canva, which acquired developer Serif over a year ago.
Up-sales are AI features, and the functional, pay-once versions have been removed from stores for Apple products. No details on how long the license activation services for V1 and V2 will remain, so even if you bought it, someday you won’t be able to install it.
Was my favorite tool, I’m devastated. :(
affinity is free software now. well, you pay with your email or other login, but that is cheaper than before. The better features are still paid. also "AI" is paid :P
And while you are reading that, I just want to mention that https://chengdulittlea.itch.io/ourpaint exists, is free, easier to download and has pigment like color mixing... also krita and inkscape and gimp exist and run on more platforms!

The shoe finally dropped on the Affinity Suite since Canva acquired it...
"What if I prefer to use the Affinity V2 suite? Will it get updates?
That’s totally fine. Your Affinity V2 license (via Serif) remains valid and Serif will continue to keep activation servers online. But please note that these apps won’t receive future updates.
For the best experience, we recommend using the new Affinity by Canva app."
I got four good years, and another year of "I guess it's still okay".
And here's my post (with receipts!) from March 2024...
To quote myself: "I’ll probably just use V2 as long as I can."

Question. Has anyone any experience of running Affinity apps under Linux? I don't need pointers on how to install it, etc. I'm interested in hearing people's actual experiences of using it (especially Publisher) in a Linux desktop environment. Reliability, what doesn't work, etc. TIA.
