I love the work that #GadgetBridge does, but also very excited to see that the new #Pebble #Android app has finally been released under an #OpenSource license.
Next step: #FDroid or maybe @IzzyOnDroid?

The new Pebble watches now run on 100% open source software (some optional features use closed source blobs). The new mobile apps for iOS and Android will also let you choose your app store "feed," so you're not locked into a single store. https://ericmigi.com/blog/pebble-watch-software-is-now-100percent-open-source #Pebble #Smartwatch #CoreDevices #OpenSource
"Yesterday, the software that powers Pebble watches was around 95% open source. As of today, it’s now 100%. This means that if Core Devices were to disappear into a black hole, you have all the source code you need to build, run and improve the software behind your Pebble."
"We’ve also published electrical and mechanical design files for Pebble 2 Duo. Yes, you can download the schematic (includes KiCad project files) ..."

Rebble plans to let you download a complete copy of its archive of Pebble smartwatch apps and watch faces, acknowledging that while its app store kept the Pebble ecosystem alive for a decade, it owns the store, not the apps. This paves the way for competing app stores. https://rebble.io/2025/11/24/rebble-in-your-own-world.html #Pebble #Rebble

Latest update on the Rebble vs Pebble (Core Devices) dispute: Rebble's Joshua Wise explains that the original complaint came from a place where Rebble contributors felt disrespected, but hopes to find a way to move forward. https://rebble.io/2025/11/19/some-personal-thoughts-on-this-whole-mess.html #Rebble #Pebble

Bastards strike, once again - it was too good to be true. But good on the Rebble community for not giving in. #pebble #rebble

Core Devices Keeps Stealing Our Work
I remember it being massive news when Pebble made moves to resurrect. Now they're trying to forcibly take away the grassroots dev community that kept Pebbles alive after they were abandoned by the original company.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

OK - despite the fact that #money is *pretty* tight right now, I did a pledgey thing. I don't do pledgey things very often... I think the last thing I pledged was the #Pebble watch. Which I loved, and so did lots of other folks. So, this means I have incredible taste, and you should definitely do a pledgey thing too.
