@Crissy I'd say an instance owner effectively owns the posts and follower relationships. Specific server implementations allow moving followers, but others don't since it's not part of the ActivityPub protocol. Moving posts is currently not possible because the post and "actor" identifiers are bound to a specific host domain. Mastodon allows exporting posts, but they can't be imported into other servers, even Mastodon servers. There are attempts to address this issue, but we'll see.

@eyeinthesky yep, you got it tho my focus is 100% on the User's IP Ownership Role.

You rightly flag the technical limitations of ActivityPub, but those limitations do not equate to a transfer of intellectual property (IP).

The User owns the IP: Every post, every original thought, every photo remains the user’s copyright. The user grants the instance owner a licence (permission) to host and display the content. They don't give away the deed.

The Server has the custody: The server is the custodian—it holds the data. If the server goes down or bans you, the content is technically inaccessible to others, but the user still holds the original ownership rights to that IP.

The problem is the tool's failure to respect IP, not the user's lack of ownership.

FOR SURE: We need portability that treats our IP like the valuable asset it is.

OK lawyer fedi, anyone got resources for @deviantollam's friend Kara? Specifically looking for support for Federal prisoners who are not getting FSA credits, medical requirements and more. Admin is messing with her meds, accessibility requirements, and appears to be engaging in a targeted campaign against her. Details in the video. https://youtu.be/4bYm4VIEAkM

@yogthos I’m curious to read the court filings on this. #FediLaw

The controversial section says the minister can direct the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to do what she deems necessary to “maintain or secure industrial peace” or create favourable conditions for a deal during labour disputes.

In recent years, the Liberals have taken that to mean that they can order the board to declare a strike illegal, compel federally regulated employees back to work or mandate binding arbitration between parties.

Proton’s manual setup for OpenVPN was fine and a bit more stable, but not always.

remember, i was battling cancer the last 2 years, almost the same length of my paid services. so i put up with a lot of meh services for lack of QA fuckery spoons.

so am kinda surprised at how my streaming has had no hiccups at all.

i was so sick these past two years, i had no idea i wasn’t getting an actually efficient service. i was just happy to be alive, so i put up with a lot of lagging and hiccups.…

am going to use this thread to keep updating on my experience looking for IT services outside of the United States.

BTW is there a reason not to use a Canadian company for mail, nextcloud and web hosting (Drupal)? so am talking about a VPS.

any lawyers wanna weigh in on this?
