🔔 Libreboot – Libreboot 26.01 “Magnanimous Max” released!
Here are some sceenshots of Mint on a 2018 Lenovo laptop I bought for $250 on Ebay. I'll be able to use this laptop for many years to come, far longer than any Mac computer runs macOS.
It boots faster than an M1 MacMini running macOS. Apps launch faster than they do on the Mac. No #Apple #surveillance. Full control of MY device with a free, #privacy respecting OS produced by people concerned not with profit but with making a great OS. Same for the #FreeSoftware I use everyday.
@dennyhenke I hate to break it to you, but you've got Intel ME inside. So - perhaps no full control of your device, sorry. #libreboot #coreboot
if someone has a #libreboot t480 or t480s, please report to #libreboot irc on libera.
there is a patch i want to test, relating to thunderbolt functionality. i will also test this myself, but having another user present will help too.
this patch: https://review.coreboot.org/c/coreboot/+/88490
i will send you a rom to test
Cool, my text about techniques to speed up FreeBSD suspend/resume now appeared on the Libreboot site!

Anybody running #FreeBSD on a #Libreboot laptop? Any major downsides? Anything I should know about?

So let’s say you were gonna buy a #Framework laptop & now you can’t. What do you buy instead?
I figured someone would mention #minifree/ #libreboot but no one did, so I am.
Any #libreboot fans having trouble getting a new version to flash onto a ThinkPad T60? I've followed the new instructions on the website, and I hate to say it but I've bricked two laptops.
I thought I'd put my failures out there to see if anyone else has had this problem. The older instructions that used the "forceiwantabrick" argument worked for me many times, but I also want's using the June 30 update.
I can't keep buying T60's, I need to figure this out before trying again.
Find myself curious to experiment with libreboot BIOS/UEFI boot firmware but it seems my laptop is not supported.
My current system is a Lenovo X1 Carbon (gen 6).
Anyone have experience with libreboot? Is it worth the work?

First, about soldering expansion board for 2K display, installing new WiFi card with an external antenna, three hard drives (2 SSD, 1 HDD, overall capacity is near 1.2 TB), physically swapping Left Ctrl with Fn and sewing a leather case for the laptop: https://eugene-andrienko.com/it/2024/07/07/thinkpad-x220-second-life.html
Second and 3rd, about #Libreboot on the laptop: https://eugene-andrienko.com/it/2024/12/21/thinkpad-x220-libreboot.html , https://eugene-andrienko.com/it/2025/07/09/update-libreboot-to-25-06.html
