Stating that Trump's rescue mission to save Milei's government from its own inhumane incompetence is of "benefit to almost no one" is one fancy way of saying that Trump, Milei, and their criminal partners are benefiting personally from the alliance. One remains in power, the other steals resources and gains one geopolitical vantage point through control of Argentina's territory.

The annexation of Argentina is contingent on Milei's political success, something which was extremely unlikely to happen before the US intervention. With the US making offers they can't refuse to every argie representative and governor, it's going to be an interesting time to see how instead of Greenland or Canada, Trump ends up seizing a different country on the cheap.
To get started with.

I'm at the point where if something I'm reading contains this structure, closing the tab is basically an involuntary reflex
Today in the argie press they highlight this interesting decision by Judge Jennifer Rochon of the Federal District Court for the Southern District of New York (regarding Javier Milei's and Hayden Davis's $LIBRA crypto scam).

Funny thing is that Bessent actually is a former Soros man!
Even if Milei loses the legislative mid-terms on October 29th, the US is already "convincing" centrist extremists that annexation / intervention is for their own good, making the very persuasive US case directly, mugging one representative after another, one governor after the next.
An invasion by a different name.
And the idiot Dems don't understand they are not paying for any of it, only confetti money.
So if you take a look at Latin America, it's a spotty look.
Argentina: soon to be annexed
Peru: turmoil, but central bank under control
Bolivia: resisting, but possibly fundamentally broken, a matter of time
Paraguay: taken
Chile: the pseudo-leftie government is about to fall, the far right will take it soon
Mexico: too big, too close, complicated, wait and see
Brazil: a pain in the arse, Bolsonaro didn't work, undermine harder, maybe force it to split.
Trump is making progress on the US plan to annex Argentina on the cheap for only $20B, not one shot fired.
Bessent and his oligarch friends stand to reap the most immediate rewards financially, whilst Thiel, Altman and others are more interested in the industrial and extractive uses of the territory.

You can't have two bosses, but that hasn't stopped Milei from trying. Just as millions of voters turned their backs on him, and Scott Bessent appears to be less inclined to honour any perceived or implied promises of financial aid, the entire entourage of his pseudo-government is indicted, or getting ready to get indicted for a range of charges of corruption. (not the least of them his own sister's %3 kickbacks for every medicine provided by the national disability services)
The Trump mafia seems less inclined to be Milei's silver bullet (increasing Arg's debt even further, selling it by parts to Trumpist oligarchs), Milei's policies are economic death, starvation, and industricide and even in the right wing he's finding new foes (Milei hasn't been able to pass a single law in 2025).
The politics are impossible
The geopolitics are impossible.
The economics are impossible.
The financials are impossible.
Milei sleepwalks towards destitution.
Milei's chances of winning the mid-terms were already scarce after he lost the legislative election of the Province of Buenos Aires last month (an electorate of 14 million, the largest province represents 37% of the national argentine vote, Milei lost by a massive %13+ margin).
Rarely a president who takes a beating there lives to get re-elected.
AS if that weren't enough, Milei is also embattled between his allegiance to Trump and urgent demands for reviving the economy.

Milei's leading candidate in the mid-term elections has been surrounded by allegations of involvement with a US drug cartel financing his campaign.
Milei has protected and denied the accusations for weeks, but this week hard evidence emerged in a Texas case showing how the druglord Fred Machado sent $200k to Milei's candidate Jose Luis Espert via Bank of America.
In the last few hours rumours are that Espert has resigned but nothing has been confirmed officially yet.

"So you really want to know how Prime Minister Farage would pan out? Well, speculate no longer. An excellent test case is unfolding right now, in a country that just so happens to be run by one of Nigel’s heroes"
"Over the past few weeks, Argentina has gone into freefall. Investors have yanked billions out of the country, and the peso has dropped like a stone"

A bailout you can't refuse.
"A person familiar with the discussions" says Milei is toast. Only Bessent appears to be keeping the Milei government alive.

If by any random chance you're interested about what the centre-left press in Argentina think about Milei and his unilateral submission to the US, a journalist said on the air today:
"You know what they call him? Scott Bessent's tamagotchi. It Scott doesn't tweet something to keep it alive, Milei's government collapses."

The argie Congress decide to allow a special commission to investigate Milei's $LIBRA crypto scam case.
Despite fierce opposition of the executive branch, who couldn't prevent the issue from being addressed after four full months of deadlock (through various tricks, such as attempts to purposefully alter the quorum size required for investigations to proceed).
The motion to form a commission is now unblocked.
