If you want to grow beans on your plot this year (Europe), you can participate in this citizens science project. It aims to identify which varieties grow well in your area and they maintain a seed bank. You get 5 different kind of beans (climbing and not) and record date and colour of first flower, shape of pods, etc.

I planted 2 plants of each variety last year, 2 did not survive a cold spell, 1 was really prolific.

If anyone would like a calm breather at the moment, I'd like to share one of my favourite gardening channels.

Seren is from South Wales. She has a very calming voice and presence. This is her working away on her allotment. She starts with one in shambles and slowly fixes it up and has it flourishing. There's lovely music and pretty flowers as she loves those. And birds! She really loves to care for the birds and wildlife on her plot.

This is my composting set up over winter. We are fortunate our winters are mild. The piles are unlikely to freeze.

The two palleted compost bays have been freshly turned.

Four compost Daleks contain maturing compost.

Another compost dalek recieves the weekly veg peelings and garden weeds with sawdust added over the top.

Anyone on #gardening Fedi have UK recommendations for some sort of not-too-big/expensive mulcher/shredder that is good for sticks and leaves kinda work, hedge-trimmer trimmings, etc... ideally to make this sort of material good for composting?

We have one of those crusher-style ones but it is only really good on sticks and small branches, it just chokes on leafy material.

I realise "use a lawnmower" may also be an option (I do not currently have a lawnmower.)
