Seattle Worldcon 2025 was an incredible experience! A huge shout-out to everyone who came to every panel with the word "solarpunk" in it like it was their job. ✊

My big takeaway is that we're all looking for hopeful visions of the future - the people want solarpunk! So honored to be able to present my research and network with amazing authors & organizers in such a beautiful city.

Some may think science-fiction conventions are all about flights of fancy - but a lot of serious subjects were addressed at #Seattle#Worldcon 2025. Here's a story recapping what futurists and authors had to say about the past, present and future of #surveillance. https://cosmiclog.com/2025/08/18/how-watching-the-watchers-could-help-stop-big-brother/#Tech#BigBrother#ScienceFiction

fediverse follow-up to a #worldcon question i want to continue to explore...

in this world of very inexpensive, llm-driven content generation, trusted curation is going to matter a lot! who/what are the editors, writers, zines, sites, etc. you recommend that curate the SF/F you like to read? (i like to flex my reading muscles, so i'm ideally looking for written content over podcasts, etc.)

Names are words. They are sound sequences in a specific language, with its own specific phonetic repertoire, phonotactics, and morphology. They are not universal invariants, and it is unreasonable to expect people who speak different languages with different repertoires to say them "correctly". My name is not the same in French, or Finnish, or Japanese, as it is in my native language, English.

This has been a #Worldcon subtoot.

#GameOfThrones author George R.R. Martin explains how one of Edgar Allan Poe's stories helped send him on a twisty trail to literary stardom. Also: #Murderbot author reflects on her success, and an awkward moment at #Worldcon attracts notice. https://www.geekwire.com/2025/game-of-thrones-creator-science-fiction-worldcon/#ScienceFiction#Fantasy

Tonight's #Hugo Award ceremony marked the climax of Seattle #Worldcon 2025, this year's edition of the world's premier science-fiction convention. Check out this report about the new crop of Hugos, mostly because there are links to all of the award winners. https://cosmiclog.com/2025/08/16/star-trek-lower-decks-doubles-up-on-hugo-awards/#HugoAwards#ScienceFiction#Books#Space#StarTrek#StarTrekLowerDecks

Happy #worldcon to those who celebrate!

Wandering.Shop's origin story is that it was built to model and keep alive the "coffee shop at a busy convention" vibe, in virtual space. I believe that convention WAS Worldcon (those who know I'm wrong, please update me!)

In celebration of the loosely timed, nearly-9th anniversary of the idea of Wandering.Shop, please read the next post below this.
