Why #Signal is being brought up again and again is beyond me… It is an American company, therefore bound to US law, which means NSA involvement, which means guaranteed backdoors to encryption.
The fact that it’s a non-profit or a foundation even says nothing (just look at #OpenAI ). Also US has stopped being a democracy, so every US company is now a vessel for authoritarianism.
Thus, going from WhatApp to Signal does nothing for you.

The problem is the clickbaity title suggesting Signal might not be safe.
Most people only read headlines and the first few paragraphs of articles, and so what they might incorrectly take away from this piece is that Signal's safety is somehow suspect.
It's not. Signal is safe.
This is outright *dangerous* at a time when effective, usable privacy and encryption tools are more important than ever – and under attack globally.

#deltachat / #arcanechat ( #decentralized #securityaudited #e2ee chat app) avoids accidentally revealing phone numbers by not asking for them. also, allowing for multiple profiles makes it harder for adversaries to track people across different chats, as opposed to #signal with its one profile per device policy. 👥
if #deanonymization is a risk for you, then #signal is not safe. 🥸
unfortunately i had to experience this first hand, which is why i consider »signal is safe« unhelpful advice. 😐

I am wondering if this is also a solution for those with classic email servers that do not support TURN for making calls.
@devSJR i have an email provider i'm moving off of (they are too aggressive with their blacklisting of ip space) but use them for testing systems. they are a standard postfix/dovecot setup with no frills. i can make a call to my other account without issue. (using #deltachat desktop and #arcanechat on #grapheneos)
it should be noted the optimal experience will be using a chatmail relay. standard email still works and there's no plans i know of to change it, but we package everything an operator needs in the deployment including the turn server.
