I'm not sure where the post I was replying to went (including for this one: https://vis.social/@candide/112966932221960803), but I'm circling back to this because it was my introduction to #navidrome, and I now have my own server running! ✨

I finally gave self-hosting a go, and learned how to use the Raspberry Pi that had been sitting in its box for ages.

I blabbed about under another post (https://vis.social/@candide/114049820212697605), and will probably blab about it some more in a future blog.

2025 was my first year self-hosting my own music streaming server using #navidrome, and I'm so glad that I was able to preserve those stats through all the changes thanks to Listenbrainz.

this is probably my favorite video of Veronica's - even if it's not technically a tutorial. I have already learned so much from her. She speaks so eloquently about the erosion of critical thinking brought forward by algorithmic media.

I was already super motivated to set up Jellyfin... now I'm checking out websites about garage sales in my area, so I can enlarge my music and DVD collection 😊

Bonjour Fedi friends!

I haven't been able to find the micro HDMI <-> HDMI cable for my #RaspberryPi, so I'm now on a mission to organize ALL my cables... Wish me luck!

Oh and once I find that cable I will install #YunoHost on my Pi, so that I can:
1) write about the process
2) install #Navidrome to set up my personal music streaming service 🤗

Update: I found the micro HDMI cable right away but now I feel I need to continue organizing my cables 😅

@jbz great writeup! I host my own media as well, and have found myself attending more local concerts and buying mercy directly from the artists which has the added benefit of fond memories attached to the media. I'm currently using #Jellyfin for all my media, but curious if there's a big benefit to be had by moving my music to #Navidrome - any thoughts?

@paperdigits Thank you for sharing this! Navidrome sounds like a solid option. 😊

Unfortunately, my tech skills (currently) end at "VPS", "Lan", and "exposing" 😭😂

That said, they do include one-click hosting solutions (Railway, Pikapods, Heroku, etc.), and it looks like there are some options there. I still need to figure out how exactly to connect the server to the music files (since you can't just upload it on the app, if I'm not mistaken), since a lot of docs assume you just... know lol
