I ran some tests on popular blogging platforms.
- substack: 300-500KB of js before you read a word
- medium: 1MB+ for the homepage
- wordPress: dozens of external requests
A blog is text and images. Why does it need 2MB of code to display 800 words?

Here another example with Tweetie (15 years!!!) and how it pushed everything forward.
The early years of mobile app design were full of energy and creativity (something Apple HIG zealots would probably hate today).
The energy in tech disappeared and we went from: „how could this be the best app we could imagine“ to „it’s good enough, ship it“.

While researching how an iPad app should look, I came across this 13-year-old video of Spotify's iPad app. It reminds me how we are stuck in mobile app design.
We have achieved nothing in the last 13 years besides adding some meaningless gestures and maybe pushing a few pixels to the left or right (metaphorically).

Exciting development! I met with someone who is embedded in the local community organisation network, and currently about to launch a council-funded project that's very similar to this.
We're very much aligned in vision, but aimed at slightly different audiences, so we're going to merge what we've both collected, with the goal of creating a single source of truth for local community data, so we, and anyone else, can build cool stuff 🌼
Daft Music 1.6 finally got approved (it took ages), which features the new Radio Engine with built-in Shazam Detection.
Besides a ton of fixes (especially translation-wise), it also reworked the Settings. I also added some new fonts to play around with.
If you are missing Radio Broadcasts, please let me know. I’m also thinking of making the Radio Directory with my modifications open source, since Radio Browser stopped maintaining it.

A key part of this project is separating out organisations, locations and services.
They're often used interchangeably, and it makes it hard to understand what's happening.
Example: this repair cafe is organised by a local branch of The Repair Cafe Foundation and a local org, Sunflower House. The event happens at 1 of 2 locations operated by Sunflower House - this one is also called Sunflower House.

This kind of feedback from folks using flowvi.be makes me so incredibly happy 😍 #IndieDev #BuildInPublic #Music
Added expense recording to the new app. It recognises if you’re in the UK and helpfully provides buttons to quickly let you select the appropriate HMRC mileage allowance 👍🚗

My pet project for Christmas is coming to an end. Since I rediscovered radio, I needed this feature.
Daft Music now recognize the music on the radio through Shazam, so you can add it to your library or check out the artist.
It took me a bit, since AVPlayer does not support Taps. I had to build a own streaming engine with AVAudioEngine, just so I can grab the AVAudioPCMBuffer.
Works great and is more memory efficient than AVPlayer.
