You never know what toddlers are thinking about how the world works. Told my daughter last night that New York was playing in the women’s soccer championship against Washington DC, and asked her who we were going to cheer for. She said “Giancarlo.” So then I had to differentiate baseball from soccer, and the Yankees from Gotham FC, and then explain the concept of women’s sports. But she thought Giancarlo Stanton was just a general representative of New York in all athletic endeavors. #NYC #Baseball #Soccer #NWSL #GothamFC #Yankees

This is quite possibly the most unbelievable storyline I’ve read about an #NWSL player in a while.
Seeing Trinity Rodman go to a big European club with world class players and world class coaches would not be shocking but seeing her go to a brand new league (where half the players are so unknown they don’t even have a Wikipedia page) in the same city where she currently plays would be mind-boggling.
“Trinity Rodman has a contract offer from DC Power of the Gainbridge Super League that is significantly larger than what the Spirit or NWSL is able to counter under the current salary cap limitations, according to sources who have been briefed on negotiations.”

The NWSL has shown how hard it is to win both the league and the playoff final and the Northern Super League is following that trend.
AFC Toronto will be gutted by this loss when they dominated until that 53’ own goal from a corner. My heart hurts for them but some decision-making errors killed their momentum beyond that equaling goal.
Holly Ward had a fantastic season for the Vancouver Rise and her winning goal matched her grit and precision.
Vancouver’s supporter group travelled across the country to cheer them on a cold rainy day.
Congrats to Vancouver Rise for being on AFC Toronto’s hit list for next season 😅
Quinn (who unfortunately was subbed out due to injury today) convinced Nikki Stanton and Jasmyne Spencer to leave the #NWSL to join them in Vancouver for the first season of #NSL.
There was no way to know how that would go with a new league that doesn’t have the same backing or history or big names as a USA established league.
They are now lifting the Diana B. Matheson Cup as the NSL first winners of the playoff final 🏆
Matheson was already a legend in Canada and in the sport of soccer/football as a whole. She advocated for better treatment in the NWSL as well as Canada’s national team and built the Northern Super League from the ground up.
It was a fun league to watch and I’m super pumped for seasons to come.
I’m sure Washington Spirit want to keep Trinity Rodman but the league might make it impossible.
“Rodman’s agent has spoken directly to commissioner Jessica Berman about deals to keep her stateside; however, one of the key points of contention is the player’s salary. Under the current salary cap, teams outside of the league can offer far more than the Spirit — or any NWSL team. Rodman’s team has had talks with at least three teams in the English Women’s Super League, according to sources familiar with the discussions.”
