Wanting to reduce a company's dependency on humans by replacing them with slop machines, which dramatically increases the company's dependency on a mere handful of other companies makes no sense, not even from a capitalist business perspective.

Unless ... of course ... you needed some fancy buzzwords to feed to eager investors. Ah, well, there we have the answer.

So Sam Altman's response to concerns about the wastefulness of his company's technology is basically "Well, raising humans consumes a lot of energy too!"

Either he has finally fried his own brain with his slop machine or he doesn't even bother any more to hide the degrading, dehumanizing, and despicable mindset that fuels the industry he's in.

Either way, those people shouldn't wield any power in the real world, where the rest of us 'dispensable humans' dwell.

I wish people would stop using the "but there are legitimate use cases" argument to recommend some slop machine to me.

I won't use it! I will stop listening to them! I won't even listen to anything else they might have to say unless they are able to make a convincing case how Slop-enAI (and its ilk) will ever stop roasting the planet, rotting our brains, and burning money in any other way than by going bankrupt.

Today in "Stories from a Coworking-Space":

The LLM bros a few tables away from mine are talking about the business plan for their 'revolutionary' slop machine.

One of them keeps saying 'market infestation' when talking about the market share they're dreaming of.

I don't think that he chose this particular wording as a result of critical deliberations. I think he likes it because it sounds aggressive.

But I also think 'infestation' describes the slop madness beautifully.

It is a marketing term. By framing those machines as intelligent, the companies building them are trying to make us believe that their products are more than stolen data, wasteful hardware, and statistics. But they are not!

We have to educate people what those machines really are, and that starts with taking away the false mystery created by advertising!
