We're helping people in Iran get set up with #Matrix.

So far we've supported several servers (directly and indirectly) so the community has infrastructure nobody can just switch off.
Right now we're preparing for the next internet shutdown. Offline plans and local comms aren't nice-to-haves they're literally survival tools.
We prepare before the blackout, not after.

With hope for #freedom in Iran.

@neil I run a VPN by default for external connections because it does reduce the data trail picked up by ISPs and web services, it has an effective ad blocker, and, most importantly, it is essential to exercise your rights before someone takes them away.

Using a VPN by default is a small act of #DigitalResistance against state and commercial surveillance.

Carole Cadwalladr's TED Talk on the digital coup is a must-watch! But let's talk about the elephant in the room: her use of Bluesky and Substack. While her message is powerful, her choice of platforms sends a mixed signal. We need to support open-source alternatives like Ghost and Mastodon to truly resist the digital coup.

We came upon this nice blog of @_elena

This is what resistance to the digital coup looks like

Technological platforms are not neutral. If we truly want to resist the digital coup that is currently under way, we need to normalize the use of free, open source solutions.
