“Water from Nestlé’s Contrex and Hépar brands contains microplastic concentrations so extreme that scientists say they shatter environmental baselines.”

A new microplastic study EVERY WEEK should NOT be the new normal.

Screenshot - RFI article - French report links Nestlé bottled waters to record microplastic contamination. French investigators have uncovered microplastic contamination in two of Nestlé’s top mineral water brands, sparking a renewed legal battle and fresh calls for tougher environmental regulation. We're in the final hours of the #plasticstreaty negotiations, and it's not looking good. But Neil Tangri says: Even without the big plastic producing countries, there remain ways ambitious countries can tackle #plasticpollution. Listen to our short update:

3/ As #PlasticsTreaty talks hit the half-way point, it's clear that negotiations are stalled.

World leaders must step up now and cut plastic production or the treaty will fail.

2/ At treaty talks in Busan, governments promised ambition, and ambition means cutting plastic production. Now, they must deliver to people and planet, not cater to the fossil fuel industry.

Multilateralism must work for those who need it the most.

Just a reminder #plasticpollution is not a new issue. Scientists found it in birds in the 1960s and described ocean plastics in the early 1970s, with reports in media like the NYTimes and Washington Post. The #plastics industry knew.

As far as I remember, this magazine cover inspired me to call my podcast Plastisphere.

Excerpt: "Microplastics are everywhere. But there are simple ways to lower your exposure. Microplastics are really small pieces of plastic — less than five millimeters long on one side or about the size of a pencil eraser. That means some of them are visible to the naked eye, but others are so tiny that you can’t even see them — smaller than the width of your hair or even a red blood cell. (...) Recycling does not match the scale of the plastic that's being produced.

It’s time to turn off the tap.

We have to stop the PRODUCTION of all that unnecessary plastic!

From 5 to 14 August, governments are gathering in Geneva to try to finalise a Global #PlasticsTreaty — a once-in-a-generation chance to turn the tide on plastic pollution.

✊ Urge world leaders to choose people and planet — not polluters.
