“It is part of the job of police to be identifiable, because of the profound #authority bestowed upon them. The ability to use force is a weighty responsibility, requiring high standards of conduct, and it can and should be revoked when abused. We are supposed to know who they are, because that is how we hold them accountable. This is why police officers wear visible badge numbers and name tags. The responsibilities they are given are not compatible with #anonymity.”

That's really interesting. It contrasts greatly with what I grew up with, when presidents were challenged by fearless journalists.
This concept reinforces my *impression* that German culture has trouble challenging hierarchies.
The #WestVirginia Citizen Action Group then filed a lawsuit claiming Morrisey exceeded his #authority.
Under #state #law, the group argued, the governor could deploy the #NationalGuard out of state only for certain purposes, such as responding to a #NaturalDisaster or another state’s #emergency request.
Morrisey’s office has argued the deployment was authorized under federal law.
#Trump #MilitaryState #MartialLaw #WashingtonDC #PosseComitatusAct #fascism #Gestapo
But the succession of notices the #Treasury & #IRS have issued beginning in summer means the #tax could bring in a fraction of that.
The breaks come in addition to the ~$4 trillion package of tax cuts that #Trump signed into #law in July. The #legislation, passed entirely by #Republicans, heavily benefits #corporations & the #ultrawealthy. It is projected to add trillions of dollars to the federal #deficit & came with steep cuts to #healthcare for the #elderly & #FoodStamps for the poorest.
With its various #tax relief provisions, the admin is now effectively adding hundreds of billions of dollars in new breaks for big businesses & investors. The #Treasury is empowered to write rules to help the #IRS carry out tax laws passed by #Congress. But the aggressive actions of the #Trump admin raise questions about whether it is exceeding its legal #authority.
"And that is something no president in 200 years has ever thought. The tariff power goes all the way back to the Revolutionary War &… the protests in the Boston Tea Party & the like," #Katyal said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."
"And our #Constitution was very clear in saying…there's one branch that has the #power to tariff & it isn't the president & it isn't the #courts. It's the #Congress of the #UnitedStates," Katyal said.
The case, known as V.O.S. Selections v. Trump, centers on whether #Trump exceeded his #authority by invoking an emergency-powers #law to impose a slew of far-reaching tariff policies.
