Okay, the #Greenland crisis is solved. Germany fending off the #Americans like the #British on #Mallorca.
Wonder why no towel in Danish colours, but maybe the towel rule only works with German towels?
Any Danes here who can explain?

Looking at what's going on in the "real world" today, living in The Village actually looks pretty attractive right about now.
Charles Stross ( @cstross ) set a novel [1] partly in an even more dystopian (in some ways) analogue of The Village, and even that place is starting to look good.
[1] "Season of Skulls". You should read it, along with everything else he's written. https://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/buy-my-books/buy-my-books-uk.html , or https://www.antipope.org/charlie/blog-static/buy-my-books/buy-my-books-us.html if you want on USAnian versions.

Over 600 Cabinet Office files have been released under the 20-year rule, covering Tony Blair’s Labour government, 2004–2005. They include correspondence, policy papers, and detailed records on the privatisation of #British Rail, notably CAB164-2253, which covers legislative strategy for the #Railways Act 1993, franchise planning, pensions, and freight operations. Other files relate to Kim Philby’s archive, the 2012 Olympics bid, and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. More than 80 documents are digitised and available online via The National Archives, with the remainder accessible in person at The National Archives in Kew, south-west #London.

"The #Jewish population is now nonexistent, but for thousands of years the #Jews of #Libya lived under the rule of the #Greeks, #Romans, #OttomanEmpire, #Italian, #British and #Arabs. In 1911, they made up roughly 4% of the #Libyan population. In 1938, “race protection laws” banned Jews from sending their children to school, working in skilled professions or intermarrying. Later the community was divided and sent to concentration camps across #Europe and #NorthAfrica.
In the years following World War II, the remaining Libyan Jews were forced to emigrate, leaving just 100 in 1969 and none at all by 2004. Many went to #Israel and many to #Rome, adding to the spread and diversity of Libyan and North African Jewish #cooking. Today we enjoy such dishes as #mafrum (stuffed #potatoes), #couscous and #chraime (a spicy #fish #stew). Learning about these #foods helps us to understand our people."

Saw The Ballad of Wallis Island today at Cinema Nova with @NarrelleMHarris.
What a great little film! Just five characters, three of them significant, brought together on an island off the Welsh coast when a wealthy eccentric (Tim Key) decides to pay for a private concert by a famous former musical duo he adored.
It's a lovely gentle comedy which becomes something more bittersweet and doesn't head where you might expect it to go. Recommended.

Finding a Sunday roast that isn't a perfunctory offering from a British-themed place can be challenging in Tokyo. Here are the best spots to tuck into this hearty British dish. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/life/2025/10/17/food-drink/top-five-british-sunday-roasts/?utm_medium=Social&utm_source=mastodon #life #fooddrink #meat #vegetables #british #chef
Occasionally I run Americans saying into " #America was a colony too" in way as if that gives them some form solidarity with colonized around the world?
It's so ignorant on so many levels. Moreover, For #NativeAmericans, the transition from " #British" to "American" subjects was, arguably worse and led to a even more horrific new phase in #genocidal #colonialism, as one of the drivers of the #American revolution was a desire to further expand and colonize the #west.
I keep hearing a lot about 'British Values', and as someone born and educated in Britain I'm not entirely sure what those values are, or who gets to decide what they are. I went to our governments website to find out, and it appears British Values are comma separated. Glad I cleared that up. #british #culture
