Just as a note for the folks here on #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon

Mastodon 4.5 has now been released with quote post authoring being one of the major additions. I know a lot of folks are going to be really excited for this and I'm pleased to say it should be a lot quicker for us to upgrade than it has been previously (thanks to the outstanding work that @thisismissem put into getting our last 2 upgrades ready means this upgrade should be a hell of a lot smoother and I'm looking forward to trying to do an upgrade myself this time!).

I'm currently having some fairly major renovations taking place in my home meaning everything is in a bit of a state so this weekend and next week is pretty much written off for me. I'm hoping the following weekend into the week after next I'll have the time to sit down and get the upgrade planned and ready to go.

Apologies that you have to wait a tiny bit longer, I will get it complete as soon as I possibly can!

Upcoming Maintenance for #MastodonAppUK and #Universeodon:

On Thursday evening, probably starting around 7PM UK Time I'm going to upgrade #Universeodon to the 4.4 release of Mastodon. I'm hoping the maintenance shouldn't involve a huge amount of downtime and I don't expect it to take more than a couple of hours to complete.

On Friday Evening, subject to everything having gone well with the Universeodon upgrade I will look to upgrade #MastodonAppUK to the 4.4 release. Again hopefully without too much downtime and not taking more than a couple of hours to complete.

Thursday afternoon I'll spin up an incident on https://status.atlas-media.co.uk which will have the updates, same again on Friday.

I'm then planning over the weekend to take #Universeodon down for what will probably be most of the morning on the Saturday to move the database server onto our new infrastructure. #MastodonAppUK will then be down that evening for me to move the Database server and Redis server as well.

I know there can be all sorts of motivations or reasons and I'd just really like to make sure there isn't anything I can or should be doing that I haven't been to continue making this both a welcoming place for folks to connect with others and more importantly keeping it as safe a place as is possible.

I've got a fairly significant amount of expenditure coming up as part of making some major improvements behind the scenes, we're planning to move to new servers at the end of August / start of September which should give us more capacity and streamline how things are running.

At the same time I've commissioned @thisismissem to do some important work to get us setup and ready to upgrade to the latest version of Mastodon which will allow us to maintain some of our custom functionality you're all used to and I'm hoping to get these upgrades done in the next few weeks.

If you're in the position to support us financially even as a one-off payment now would be a great time to consider throwing in a bit of cash to help out!

I've had some not ideal news come through, both of the contracts that I thought were going well and I'd be starting any day now have fallen at the final hurdle with projects getting cancelled and a whole host of other issues.
