Here is the monthly photo looking up the allotment. Today's visit was the first for a month due to health reasons so it will have to do for August and September. The runner beans have finished cropping, the potatoes have been lifted and the wallflower plants in the foreground are nearly ready to be moved back home. We have started picking the apples (out of shot) with a view to making cider next month.

As with previous months, the main thing you can see is the runner beans. These make a huge contribution to the compost heap....when I get round to cutting them down!

I see greenwashing, nature destroying, venture capitalists Roots allotments are in the news again, this time destroying meadows in the South Downs National Park. Again ignoring planning laws and objections by locals. Yes, we need more allotments, but not the type that have regularly destroyed ancient meadows. I make no apologies for again calling on Charles Dowding to disassociate himself from this company.

"With huge waiting lists, public demand for allotments is clear. What’s needed now is political will, and an ability to reimagine cities not just as places to live and work, but as places to grow.

Because as Corbyn warned: once these spaces are lost, they’re rarely replaced"

You can sleep safer knowing that the police are protecting you from allotment holders.
