This is a view taken from the roadside on my way home from Portree. I do this journey at least twice a week. It never fails to thrill me.

It’s a view looking towards the coast of Minginish from a point high above the main road between Sligachan and Dunvegan near Struan.

We do this drive of necessity as we need to collect laundry and food several times a week. Portree is the nearest supermarket. This is the shortest route...

“Minginish (Scottish Gaelic: Minginis) is a peninsula on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is situated on the west coast of the island and runs from Loch Scavaig in the south (which separates Minginish from the Strathaird Peninsula), along the western coast of Skye to Loch Bracadale in the north west (which separates Minginish from the Duirinish Peninsula), to Loch Harport in the north east, and Glen Sligachan in the south east. It includes most of the peaks of the Cuillin hills including Sgurr Alasdair, the highest point on the island at 992 metres (3,255 ft).” The cliffs you can see in the misty distance are close on a thousand feet high...

You can see the sun having just risen behind the branches of a nearby Apple tree. Overhead, the sky is mostly blue with a few clouds near the horizon. In the mid ground, you can see the distant hills with trees and pastures and cornfield. And in the foreground, thick shrubbery and a little view of my right shoulder and the bug net I’m wearing to keep the mosquitoes away from my face.
