@MelissaBearTrix

My dad retired to Morecambe, England.

They recently built a new sea wall to protect the town centre from waves in high winds, because the old one was crumbling..

Cost: £10 million.

They said it was supposed to be good for 100 years. It is only 3 cm higher than the old one. It only covers about a km.

It's not going to be 100 years before the sea goes over it and around it. The nearby smaller towns on the coast have nothing.

The researchers were surprised to find that the loss of #water on the continents has grown so dramatically that it has become one of the largest causes of global #SeaLevel rise.

Moisture lost to evaporation and drought, plus runoff from pumped groundwater, now outpaces the melting of glaciers and the ice sheets of either Antarctica or Greenland as the largest contributor of water to the oceans.
