I keep watching this garbage show despite knowing better
I started watching the new #StarTrek show #StarFleetAcademy . We are quite proficient in English, but both my wife and me found it really hard to follow the dialogues. Not sure if this is a production issue or if young actors simply don't have the same quality of speech training than they used to, but it really bothers me.
Any thoughts on that?
This captain sits worse than my cat.
You know, I like to focus on small details in the back- or (sometimes) foreground and one thing I love about #StarfleetAcademy is that you see students playing (3D-)chess (or similar games) and carrying around music instruments everywhere. Even though we just had an episode heavily featuring a physical game like calica, there's also people playing chess and music in their free time. I'm not smart enough for chess and only play the keyboard, but I feel represented! :-)
Behind the scenes photos, shared by Gina Yashere (Cadet Master Lura Thok) ⬅️, show that the actress's gums and tongue are coloured grey in post production ( #StarfleetAcademy's "Vitus Reflux"➡️) to more closely resemble the skin tone of the blue-grey Jem'Hadar/Klingon hybrid.

Has anybody sourced Captain Ake's pajamas with tiny warp cores on them yet? Asking for a friend.
Pike's daily inspirational tubolift/corridor quote was really hard to read in #StarfleetAcademy's "Beta Test"⬇️. Thankfully, (most of) it can be read much better in "Vitus Reflux"⬆️. Pike spoke these words in the #StarTrekDiscovery season 2 episode "Project Daedalus" (2nd pic).
Big thanks to everybody who let me know that the stone panel above Nahla Ake'ss office fireplace in #StarfleetAcademy⬆️ is based on the fireplace in Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House ⬇️. This is not the first time that Frank Lloyd Wright has been visually quoted on #StarTrek like that: 🧵 1/3

I can't watch Starfleet Academy. USS Athena looks like a laurel wreath with feathers.
During the turbolift scene, early in #StarfleetAcademy's "Beta Test", we can briefly see another piece of daily inspiration...and this one is by Captain Benjamin Lafayette Sisko. He says those words to Worf at the end of #StarTrekDS9's "Way of the Warrior":
"Running may help for a little while, but sooner or later the pain catches up with you, and the only way to get rid of it is to stand your ground and face it."

First episode and Paramount already wants to cancel the whole thing, first time agreeing with their corporate greed, nuke it from orbit and forget it ever premiered.
This must be my favourite callback in #StarfleetAcademy ("Beta Test") so far: the gramophone in Ake's office features several alien musical instruments: a Vulcan chime ( #StarTrekTNG's "Haven"↗️), Vulcan bells (" #StarTrekTOS' "Amok Time"➡️) and an Enaran instrument ( #StarTrekVOY's "Remember"↘️). 🧵 1/2
The Doctor being handed over the wrong kind of tricorder in #StarFleetAcademy's "Kids These Days"➡️ is a callback to his first activation 800 years earlier, when Harry Kim erronoeously handed him over a tricorder instead of medical tricorder in "Caretaker"⬅️. :-)

There are a lot of questions to dig into on the wall of names in this trailer, but "Admiral Harry Kim" is the most pressing one.
