Here's the final Xmas custom crochet toy I made this year. This is the second toy I have made for this little girl, who is an extremely talented young artist. Her designs are very clever 😊

I'm still getting my head around this Mastodon thing, (my last post was 2 years ago)...my millennial brain seems to only compute with Instagram and Facebook marketplace at best - but I'm keen to share my work here as it seems like a welcoming space.

I make things - mostly freehand machine embroidery pieces. I'm fascinated by lichen-like forms - nature's ability to hold and transform is humbling in these current times.

Another finished project. Freeform crochet inspired by dragons - 7 large dragons eyes and a couple of nostrils in there and lots of patches of crocodile stitch. Now hiding my tatty but comfortable conservatory chair!

Finished it all today, with some small breaks. And this is why I need to get more #Embroidery floss soon. Visible mending. 😅

While I only needed to mend a small part I decided to do it all along the edge for future strengthening!

Oh, I also got to practice how to switch thread 2 times, and make it secure and I think I did pretty good, I made some doubles on the top but it looks quite neat.

Start of mending, Green embroidery floss with blanket stitches around the edge of my heatpad, which has a red edging that needs to be repaired as some of the stitches had started to break

Closeup of where I've used a yellow tacking thread together with a fabric glue stick for attaching the edging and stitching it in place so it doesn't move around when mending. Both washes out, and this heatpad is washable

A quarter of the heating pad, showing of the green blanket stich all the way around the red edge of the otherwise white pad.

The very edge where I switched from one thread to another, basically I slid in hidden thread, doubled one stitch and back threaded across the top the old thread to secure it. The new one binds itself in immediately. It's only double thread for 2 stitches on the top.
