I got judged often for not dressing like a poor disabled woman 'should' dress. WTAF is wrong with people?!?! Just because I'm physically disabled for life & am of working poor class, doesn't mean I can't fucking look fabulous!
I've always been great at repurposing/upcycling shit before those were actual terms. I grew up very physically & neurologically disabled, was extremely poor & I learned how to adapt very well because both my parents taught me multiple useful skills. I adapted clothes & made myself outfits because nothing on racks fit people like me too well. I started doing adaptive fashion designs for myself & still do.
I am starting to look at making my childhood dreams, much bigger. I want to start designing super cool fashions for other physically disabled folks, of all ages - who also don't want only drab basics but want to expand their fashion styles to bigger horizons.
I can do this.
I'd welcome some help on how to apply to be a citizen speaker in #BCgovernment legislature. I want to speak there about the failures on public health. I want to share how lack of covid safety by government killed my Dad. I want to share experiences with working with elderly who feel abandoned by government. I want to share how zero year round masking mandates have caused more preventable, contagious illness & how more folks are becoming disabled by this ongoing eugenics public health policies. I want to ask about defunding the only long covid clinic on South island. I want to share how the BC NDP has harmed & is still harming me, my family, my vulnerable clients, my friends & my living communities.
I, alone, can't stop social murders by our government. I can try to stop government from killing & disabling more people. I can get what is necessary to speak out about, documented on public records & try to push for more just policies. I can speak as a citizen & as a health care worker.

Voluntarily exposing yourself & your kids to covid or measles doesn't help build up immune systems. It actually makes them weaker & more susceptible to catching more viruses.
What blows my mind is the cognitive dissonance some parents have. I'm talking about parents who support aborting babies who they find out will be born with disabilities. They're the same ones who are OK exposing their non-disabled kids to preventable death/disabilities! It's a serious WTF.
*It's mostly Christo-Fascist types who are against abortion, unless it's aborting a disabled baby. They don't seem to have issues aborting babies who may be born with one or more disabilities.

It's fair to say that all of us should have these issues at top of mind and on the tip of our tongues. I am sorry to say that they were not for me that day.
I read that you were not happy with the stated masking policies at Fedicon. It's justified. There were masks available for everyone at the event, though, and about 1/4 of the people were masked.
I’m not trying to pretend that there weren’t shortcomings or mistakes made, just that this is the byproduct of volunteers trying to do their best with what little they had. Each time an event kicks off, we develop a laundry list of things that really need to be improved upon for the next one.
Anyway, I will talk to Charles and other people organizing these events in the future to make sure we get this right the first time. Nobody was trying to be ableist, but intent is not magic. I will try to find ways to make these things better wherever I can.
So apparently there's this big #FediForum coming up tomorrow & on weekend in #VancouverBC. I was thinking about attending for a few hours as 2 of the nonprofits not on Mastodon yet were willing to pay for me to go. Unfortunately - the organizers seem to be very #ableist.
I sent a direct question about their #CovidSafety protocols because their event site info had ZERO info for concerned people who don't want to catch covid at any forum/convention. No answer at all. This lack of providing public information on #Covid & how they plan to mitigate, lack of answers on my direct public safety question -> top shelf #ableism.
This event isn't #inclusive.
I wouldn't have to call out your #Vancouver#FediCon if your organizers weren't so fucking ignorant about #PeopleWithDisabilities in the first place. Your event organizer is an #ableist & I've yet to see any of you people listed on their public info - as speakers - calling them out for their #ableism
