With #CoVID being spread'n'caught obliviously, there's going to be more stupidity, #BrainFog & Co. all around:

That's IMHO a major crutch that keeps the #aiBubble hobbling along: Knowledge workers losing their mental facilities, but having enough disposable income for a #GenAI subscription to keep up appearances.
@gittaca I understand your perspective. But AI will stay, hopefully on a reasonable scale. Edge AI could be a way to leverage specialized, efficient models on-device.
@ranagmbh Well: https://alex.party/posts/2025-05-05-the-future-of-web-development-is-ai-get-on-or-get-left-behind/
Seriously though: That "will stay" statement sounds strangely similar to "#CoVID will become endemic". Designed to induce apathy. Very fitting, given that both cause neurological problems. One could even go as far as looking at both's timelines and wonder whether it might be profitable to push both.
I've tried pushing for #DavosSafe office air at my employer and was rebuffed. Since then: both #BrainFog & GenAI abound.
For context, my cognitive capacity has notably declined in the past few years, both on a general trajectory and including episodic worsening that's phenomenologically separate from the #MECFS #BrainFog.
Several times in the last 24 hours or so, when my eyes have been closed, I've experience contradictions between my belief about the position I was in and the physical reality.
For example, I'm lying on my side, and all the physical cues are there, like pushing against the mattress, but my mind is convinced I'm lying on my back. The only way out of it has been to open my eyes.
Then it would happen again after I closed them.
I woke Jalan at some point last night telling her, "I'm fearful." I really am.
As horrific as the severe ME/CFS is, my cognitive function worsening at the same time is fucking terrifying.
Not for nothing I'll point out Dragonlet is not quite nine years old.
Researchers linked Long COVID "brain fog" to a systemic increase of AMPA receptors in the brain using PET imaging. Higher receptor density correlated directly with more severe cognitive symptoms and inflammation. This discovery provides a potential biomarker for diagnosis and a new therapeutic target, suggesting drugs that suppress AMPA receptor activity could be an effective treatment.

@yogthos Whoa - fascinating indeed. Here's the full paper, if anyone is interested:

As someone who just read up on left-wing accelerationism I find the connection to capitalisms "total mobilisation" around so-called "AI" very fitting.
And yet, it was @danmcquillan (while talking to @parismarx who connected these dots for me.
"AI" totalitarianism is nothing exclusive to tech bros or neoliberal VCs. It has also and regrettably captured the imagination of many on the left.
