#Degoogled Maps? Yes, it's possible. 📍🗺️
The Big Tech does not need to track your every step 👉use a Google Maps alternative instead.

Given everything happening right now, I updated this article with options for weather apps, web forms, and translation services — along with some tweaks to existing categories.
I hope it helps your transition off US tech!

I #degoogled myself in 2020. The reason? I was so angry when they fired @timnitGebru that I had to take action.
I still haven't managed to 100% switch away from #USTech. #whatsapp is something that both friends and family seem unwilling to give up. My debit and credit cards are #VISA and #mastercard but thanks to Wise's recommendation from @parismarx that may soon change

Ready to #deGoogle 💯 per cent?
We've reviewed the top five smartphones that help you go Google-free in 2026.
@volla
@Fairphone
@murena
#SHIFTphone
#Punkt
Which one is your favorite?
@Tutanota @volla @Fairphone @murena They're essentially all the same design, which is to say multiple camera having, GPS, AIs in the form of digital assistants embedded in them & none have physical keyboards, only Volla is military grade durable in said hardware, but it doesn't work in my country. So for my long-term needs in any smartphone I'd pay for, as they'd work for me year-round, which include having a physical keyboard, no AI and durability, none of these are real options.
Diversity in hardware is needed in the open source sphere, for widespread adoption to be possible. #DisabilityAccessibility #OpenSourceHardware #deGoogled

⚡ For a chance to win, just comment what is most important for you on a #deGoogle phone? ⚡
@Tutanota @volla The most important element of a #deGoogled phone is being secure and easy to use, to the point that I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone

So, update report, after carrying around 2 phones for a few days (the new one, and the old naughty googly one):
I've been missing Google calendar and Google maps a lot - turns out I use them quite a lot.
The unexpected ones: Google contacts and Gboard - both things I thoroughly took for granted to the extent that I didn't really think about the fact I was using them.
I've just caved and set up Google calendar and contacts access BUT I've done it through #davx5 and am using the default calendar and contacts apps which came with #lineage.
Long-term I think it would be fun to move away from having #Google manage that data for me (maybe using #radicale and #syncthing? https://forum.syncthing.net/t/how-to-sync-contacts-and-calendars-between-desktop-and-android-without-root/21326) but that can be an adventure for another day.

Battery-efficient push notifications on a #degoogled #Android device? Yes please, thanks to @unifiedpush!
Varying degrees of #selfhosting available (e.g. with a simple @nextcloud add-on and #NextPush app) or ntfy
Or you can use the free #Sunup app from the @fdroidorg store to out-of-the-box to make use of @mozilla push infrastructure. Neat! 📸

I've been meaning to share this for a while, but for any Android users out who want to use a text-to-speech engine other than Google's, I recommend Sherpa TTS: https://github.com/woheller69/ttsEngine
It's open source, offline, multilingual, and available on F-Droid.
I use text-to-speech a lot with my RSS readers (Feeder and ReadYou), and it's been a game-changer.

I like what Graphene is doing for security but instead of giving $$$ to Google in order to have #degoogled, I'd rather invest in improving #LinuxMobile which is a pro-freedom solution from the get-go and is not held hostage by a hostile codebase.
Perhaps this analogy will be correct: It's like moving into a less than ideal house that you can own forever versus moving into something that looks more like your dreamhouse that you don't really own.
