So if anyone is following my toots, I'm starting all the Marvel movies from the beginning. I Have watched Captain America and Iron Man so far, but I'm skipping The Incredible Hulk cuz I actually watched it recently (Liv Tyler 😍). Next up is Iron Man 2!
Oh, and other than Loki, I'm sticking strictly to the movies. There's no way I'm watching Moon Knight again 😒
I read comics since the late 70s, and stopped in the mid 90s when big media conglomerates got involved. The people at the top of a comic publisher , the ones who genuinely gave a shit, were replaced by dutiful corporate stewards who lived by one evangel: Line must go up. So these geniuses had a bright idea: Variant covers. The same story, but with 5 or 6 variant covers. Nothing else special. It was the same story, no "extras", just a different chromatic 3D cover. Months later, these variants would be found in 50 cent clearance boxes. Nobody wanted them.
Flash forward to the dawn of the MCU. Many of us long time Marvel fans had dreamed of films being made of our favorite heroes and villains. In 2008, Iron Man kicked everything off, and it was a ride from there. (Author's note: I'm not going into the whole bloody timeline and all the phases, because my ADHD took one look at that wiki page and went "Aw hell naw!") All of this led up to Avengers Infinity War and End Game. This, in my opinion, was the bow. The perfect end for an amazing journey.
I'm feeling Avengers: Doomsday is a variant cover. But, hey, maybe I'm just jaded.

Haven't seen a Marvel movie for a few years, eh?
Anyway, the reason I mention this is that a few weeks ago I finally got around to downloading the latest Fantastic Four movie. I still haven't got around to watching it, and to be brutally honest, I don't know if I can be bothered.
A new MCU movie used to something I'd look forward to, going to a cinema with friends as soon as it came out. Now it feels like homework I didn't get around to doing, and I'm wondering if it's still worth bothering with. Which makes me a little sad : (

I always wonder whether lines like this come from the original comics.
What a turn up for the books. A few days ago I was bemoaning my lack of interest in watching First Steps, given that I was a total junkie for the Infinity Saga. I'm having a rest day today, and a bit of mental candyfloss seemed about my speed, so I finally put First Steps on, and I loved it. What a return to form.
A few reactions;

I'll admit to being a huge fan of Infinity Saga era MCU movies. They're big, dumb fun, but at the thoughtful, character-driven end of big, dumb fun. Berries and yoghurt, rather than pure cotton candy.
An example, when Spiderman bested Vulture, I wasn't 100% sure I was on Peter's side, and I *liked* that moral ambiguity. A superhero movie can never be "realistic", but things like that can make them *convincing* and that's important in a good story.

The Eternals is an overstuffed, overlong movie, full of great ideas and visuals, thrown in a blender and served cold. In hindsight it's a real shame it wasn't made as a TV series.
In just 8 episodes, we would have had time get to know each of the many characters, and how they relate to each other. We could have seen their relationships shift and fragment over time, instead of getting an exposition dump and a video slideshow of it all in the prologue.

Finally saw the Fantastic 4 movie tonight, and really enjoyed it. But came home and dug this vintage item out of my storage. Barely remembered having it. (Spoilers ahead) Was this movie like 80 percent based on this box set? Herbie, Franklin, and Doctor Doom with removable mask!
