It feels like a column view that always wraps long file names to the column width should have been there since the beginning. Happy, welcome addition.

Fuck, no, Apple. I was forced to update to iOS 26 due to lack of security updates for 18 on devices that can run 26 (i.e., due to extortion) but you’re not infecting my Mac with Liquid Ass.
Notice the dark pattern of pestering you in hopes you will accidentally hit the “Restart” button even though you’ve specifically turned off auto updates. Microsoft-level disrespect for consent here.
(Not surprising from a company that gives golden awards to fascists.)

In Finder’s column view, a quick way to resize columns to exactly fit the width of the widest file name is to double-click on the two tiny vertical lines at the bottom of the column. But in 26.2, I’m finding that there is a translucent dark scrollbar covering the double line, so if I double-click where I see the lines, it just moves the scrollbar around.
It happens in folders with a lot of items. Anybody else seeing this, and better yet, know how to fix it?
Gone are the days where you could easily distinguish file types by icons. Why have them anymore?
Tip: Squint and lean in and you might see the difference!

Irony: I launched Perplexity to ask it where on macOS Tahoe I can see "apps using significant" energy. It explained that I could get that from the menu bar app for Battery. I checked there, and it said that Perplexity was using significant energy.

In this episode of the NosillaCast, learn the magic behind the madness of how I created a mind map of EVERY setting in macOS 26.1 System Settings. @bart is there for us with Security Bits and a deep dive about those pop-ups on iOS/macOS that ask you for LAN access.
Oops! I did it again. I have mind-mapped every single element in all of macOS 26 (Tahoe) System Settings! I give you two links: The first is a permanent page to use the mind map to search for settings and then figure out where Apple has buried them. The second is a post on "how I did this crazy thing and why". Because of the size and complexity, I could not have published the mind map in a usable form without the genius of @ttscoff!

HALLELUJAH!!! It has bothered the living daylights out of me FOREVER that while on iOS in Reminders you can type, "go to the store at 10AM" and it would auto-fill the reminder time, but on macOS it wouldn't do that! I think it was in 26.1 that they just made that work. No more picking from those stupid pickers for the time!!!
I'm mind mapping EVERY SINGLE item in System Settings in macOS 26.1. Can you guess which feature has the most separate controls within it?
If you’ve been annoyed (like I have) that the Clipboard history in the new Spotlight in macOS 26 is only 8 hours of. history, go to System Settings → Siri & Search. Scroll almost to the bottom and look for “Clipboard history is available in Spotlight” and you can up it to 7 days (or down to 30 min).
@madeindex as it is the 8TB HDDs I'm getting are quite high in price. SSDs would be much more I'd guess. Also the case is fit for more HDDs. Up to 18. People who buy HDDs that are say 22TB are crazy I think. Better to have redundant storage. I guess some might put those in a raid but that's really expensive. Maybe they have the money and that's fine but I'd rather not risk data: even with dual backups. Only recently I added the second backup disk. With the new server actually.
@madeindex the #MacBookPro #M4Max has an external (USB-C) HDD for backup. The #M1Max is bricked thanks to #Apple releasing their crapware #macOS ( #macOS26) knowing full well that in beta they were bricking devices. But once I get that repaired (DFU failed here) if Apple's so-called 'geniuses' can fix it it's still not worth an extra backup as it was used to set up the M4 Max. The M1 Max needs the keyboard replaced too. Thank goodness I got the M4 Max earlier this year!
macOS 26 bug: the entirety of the Contacts app redesign
There is a 99% chance that I want to copy a phone number—not call it—from my laptop, but selecting the phone number to copy it now takes multiple attempts due to a selection bug.
The cursor changes to the text caret, but the text fails to highlight when dragging about half the time. This results in multiple drags and accidental clicks that immediately initiate a call. Selecting text works consistently once it finally works.

I think a way that Liquid Glass could be improved is having “aggregate states”. Liquid when there’s movement, and frosted (or “solid”, if you will) when static.
That way you get the cool effect when you’re scrolling, and legibility is better when you’re not.
The Liquid Glass effect really only comes through when something’s moving, anyway. When not, it more often looks like a graphical glitch to me.
I know how @siracusa loves how Apple found ways to minimize the color differences so we can't see buttons and such, so I made this wee video just for him (but you can watch it too if you like.)
